Short-term team visits to Africa are an integral part of our outreach strategy.  For those serving on our teams it is a life-changing experience; team members go to give, but they receive far more in return.

In 2006 there will be two team visits, one to Botswana in August and one to Uganda in September. These visits will be approximately two weeks in duration.

We need volunteers that are experienced or qualified in sports coaching or the youth or children’s related sector.  As a first step in applying for a team, please complete our online application form.

The focus of our team visits is to support and aid the work of our longer term co-ordinators.  Their focus is to develop indigenous leaders and part of this process involves working shoulder to shoulder with local volunteers and directly with the children in their care.  Teams are involved with teaching, coaching and mentoring.

To maximise the time in a country, our team visits are highly organised and structured, we provide our teams with clear direction and purpose and outputs are measured. The experience is so positive that many team members return with us year on year. In 2006 team members need to raise a minimum contribution of £900 towards the cost of their place.

What team members say

Kate, Oxford

Honestly I thought the team visit was amazing and totally outweighed my expectations. I also saw the value of the long term approach and really committing to the projects and the people.

I loved working with the local volunteers in such a mutually respectful and beneficial way. Using their local knowledge and genuinely getting to know them was awesome.

I was honestly surprised at how much could be achieved in just two weeks in terms of the long term aim of sustainability.

The biggest highlight of all my visits to Africa was sitting under a tree with a group of 20 local children, telling each other what they wanted to do when they grow up. They had dreams and it was the first time they had shared them with an adult. It was such an honour to be able to sit and listen to them.

Using my coaching skills to invest in the development of future leaders in Uganda was a fantastic privilege. Sharing a room with Tim and Adam wasn’t!
